After winning two National Championships and three consecutive Big 12 Championships in the High Jump to go along with an Olympic Silver Medal Kansas State Men’s Track and Field Star Erik Kynard received yet another honor on Monday when he was named a semifinalist for The Bowerman which is College Track and Field’s equivalent of College Football’s Heisman Trophy. Kynard, a native of Toledo, Ohio is one of 10 semifinalists for the award announced by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. The list is expected to be narrowed down to three finalists next month.
Also on Monday, Wildcat Women’s Golfer was named Monday by the Big 12 as the conference’s Sportsperson Of The Year. According to a release from Kansas State Athletics Communications, Pyle is the first Wildcat athlete to receive the honor since the awards began during the 2000-01 academic year. That year K-State Women’s Basketball player Kim Woodlee was the winner of the inaugural award. According to the press release, Pyle a native of Blue Mound, Kansas served this past year on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and was a member of the Adopt-A-Family subcommittee responsible for organizing and executing the committee’s promise to fufill the Christmas list for 14 people.
