    Nigel Malone Lands in Pittsburgh

    0
By John Kurtz on June 6, 2013 K-State Sports, Sports

Pro Football Talk reports that former K-State cornerback Nigel Malone has been signed by the Pittsburgh Steelers.

He will take the roster spot that was opened when the Steelers placed cornerback Justin King on injured reserve. Malone originally signed with the Indianapolis Colts after the NFL draft, but was later released.

Current NFL rules allow teams to have a 90-man roster during the offseason, but teams must cut the roster down to 53 by the start of the regular season. The first cut comes during the third week of the preseason, when teams must trim their roster to 75 players.

Malone will have to battle in training camp and the preseason to make the final roster. The Steelers currently have six other cornerbacks listed on their official roster.

Malone joins Travis Tannahill (Cleveland Browns), Justin Tuggle (Houston Texans), Angelo Pease (Green Bay Packers), Ryan Doerr (Denver Broncos), and Allen Chapman (Indianapolis Colts) as K-State undrafted free agents currently on NFL rosters.

Arthur Brown, who was a second round draft pick of the Baltimore Ravens, has already signed a four-year contract. Chris Harper has also signed a four-year deal with the Seattle Seahawks after being drafted in the fourth round. Braden Wilson, a sixth round draft pick, is signed to a four-year contract with the Kansas City Chiefs.
