Full Overnight Roadway Closures On K-18

0
By KMAN Staff on July 10, 2013 Local News

All lanes of eastbound and westbound K-18 from east of Scenic Drive to west of K-113 (Seth Child Road) will be CLOSED for bridge work overnight on Tuesday-Friday, July 16-19, with closures beginning at 7:00 p.m. and reopening to all traffic at 5:00 a.m. the next morning. This closure is needed for the setting of the steel bridge beams over the westbound lanes of K-18 which is currently carrying head-to-head traffic for eastbound and westbound K-18 traffic. The project work is scheduled to be completed and the highway reopened to unrestricted traffic at 5:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 20.

Eastbound I-70 to K-18 traffic will still be able to access Ogden, Manhattan Regional Airport and Scenic Drive. Advance message boards will be in place on eastbound I-70 stating “K-18 closed at Scenic Drive and directing traffic to Exit 313 (K-177).” Westbound K-18 will remain open to traffic. Westbound K-18 will have to utilize the westbound entrance and exit ramps at Miller Parkway to continue westbound on K-18. Advance message boards will be in place notifying traffic to use the Miller Parkway ramps for westbound K-18. Westbound traffic should be limited to 12’ width restriction.

Advance message boards will alert drivers to the roadway closures. No marked detours will be provided for the overnight closures. Drivers should expect delays and must use alternate routes during the roadway closure. Updated traffic information for this project is available at: http://www.ksdot.org/topekaMetro/projectstudyNEKS.asp

The Kansas Department of Transportation urges all motorists to be alert, obey the warning signs, and “Give ‘Em a Brake!” when approaching and driving through the project work zone.

These closures are for construction work on the overall improvement project that will reconstruct a seven-mile stretch of K-18 from Manhattan to Ogden to a freeway when completed. There are three construction phases included in the overall K-18 improvement project.
