First team all-Big 12 performers John Hubert and Ty Zimmerman both were named to preseason watch list for national awards given to the best player in the country.

Hubert rushed for 947 yards and 15 touchdowns on 189 carries last season, and was nominated for the Maxwell Award, which recognizes the nation’s best player. Collin Klein was a finalist for the Maxwell last season, which was handed out to Notre Dame’s Manti Te’o.  Hubert is one of six Big 12 players up for the award.

Zimmerman led the Big 12 with five interceptions during league play last season to go with 50 tackles, and was tabbed to the Chuck Bednarik Award watch list.  He is one of seven Big 12 players receiving the preseason honor from the award, which is given to the best defensive player in college football.  Arthur Brown was one of 16 semifinalists for the Bednarik, and Nigel Malone was also on the preseason list.  Te’o also claimed that trophy last season.
