K-State, representing Team USA at the World University Games, swept Norway 25-18, 25-15, 25-16 to avoid elimination on Saturday morning in Russia.
The Wildcats used a 5-0 run to take a 13-12 lead in the first set and they never looked back. The only other deficit K-State faced was 3-2 in the second set.
K-State hit .350 for the match with 35 kills to go along with 11 blocks defensively.
“Today, we wanted to be able to build momentum on offense and not rely solely on our serving and blocking to score. The match with Norway was by far our most productive offensive effort,” said head coach Suzie Fritz in a press release. “We were terrific at the net and blocking balls has been a bright spot for us throughout the tournament and I thought that our serving was very effective as well.”
Courtney Traxson led the Wildcats with eight kills. She was followed closely by Chelsea Keating who had six kills with a .600 hitting percentage.
On Sunday, the Cats posted 51 total kills, took a set from China, but fell in four sets, 25-20, 25-19, 22-25, and 25-17. Traxson had 12 kills, Keating posted 11, and Kaitlynn Pelger had 10. Tristan McCarty had 15 digs. Pelger served three aces.
K-State is sightseeing in Russia on Monday at places like the Kremlin, before returning home on Tuesday.
