Former Manhattan High standout and Illinois State Redbird Jackie Carmichael, who was undrafted in last Thursday’s NBA draft, was picked up by the defending champion Miami Heat’s summer league roster.

Carmichael led the Missouri Valley Conference  in rebounding and blocked shots last season, he also ranked fourth in scoring with 17.4 points per game. Carmichael scored double figures 29 times and grabbed 10 or more rebounds 16 times throughout the 2012-13 campaign.

According to ESPN.com, this year’s summer league starts in Las Vegas on July 12, with the first-ever championship game set for July 22. All teams will play at least five games, with the tournament set to begin after teams are seeded following the conclusion of games played July 16.

Carmichael, a 2013 Lou Henson All-American, was one of nearly 60 top-prospects invited to the NBA Draft Combine in May.
