Yet another sobriety checkpoint is planned by the Riley County police department this weekend. The DUI checklane will begin Saturday, extending into the early hours of Sunday.
Motorists suspected of impairment will be given on-site sobriety field tests, with confirmed impaired drivers arrested.
10 people were arrested this past weekend as part of a sobriety checkpoint by the Riley County Police department, Kansas Highway Patrol, and Kansas State University Police. The checkpoint was conducted during the early morning hours Saturday in the two-thousand block of Kimball Avenue.
262 vehicles were stoped between 15 minutes after midnight until 2:30 a.m. 17 drivers were evaluated for impaired driving, and nine were arrested for DUI. One additional subject was cited for possession of a controlled substance and driving while suspended. There were five other people cited for minor in consumption of alcohol and three for transporting an open container of alcohol.
The Kansas Department of Transportation provides funding for the check lane through a grant.
