“Strong Schools Built by Strong Communities” is the theme for the 2013 Kansas Safe, Healthy and Prepared Schools Conference to be held September 16th and 17th at the Manhattan Conference Center, 410 S. 3rd Street.
Keynote Speakers will include Horacio Sanchez of Resiliency Inc. and Sharon Watson of the Kansas Adjutant General’s Office. Sanchez will explain the link between school climate and success while Watson will discuss the role of communications during a crisis.
Breakout presentations will include: reducing bullying behaviors; program sustainability; public health and schools; media, sex and violence; dealing with intruders; suicide prevention; working with school resource officers and human trafficking. Conference organizers – KDHE, the Kansas State Department of Education (KSDE) and the Kansas Center for Safe and Prepared Schools – are introducing a new feature to this year’s event.
The free family engagement presentation is slated for 6 p.m. Monday September 16 Parents, grandparents, foster parents, legal guardians and other caregivers who wish to attend this session need only check in that evening at the conference registration site.
