K-State and Fort Riley Renew Partnership

    0
By KMAN Staff on August 29, 2013 Fort Riley, Local News, Manhattan

Representatives from K-State and Fort Riley renewed the nation’s first and only military-to-university community partnership, Thursday afternoon at the K-State Alumni Center.

“Whatever it is, we’ve got people lining up that wanna help and serve and make sure that we’re doing everything we can to make the mission, that our men and women in uniform are doing, to be successful,” said Kirk Shultz, President of Kansas State University.

To see how the partnership brings K-State and Fort Riley together, one need look no further than the K-State Men’s basketball jerseys.

“They’re the only Division I school sport that can wear military insignia. They have the patch of the 1st Battalion of the 7th Field Artillery (Regiment) and the motto. That’s their motto to drive their team, which is a pretty deep understanding of where we’re trying to go,” said Maj. Gen. Paul E. Funk II, Commanding General of the Big Red One and Fort Riley.

Thursday’s ceremony, marked the fourth partnership renewal since it was established (2008) by former K-State President, John Wefald; and former Commanding General of Fort Riley, Robert Durbin.
