Bill Snyder has officially named Jake Waters as K-State’s starting quarterback for Friday’s season opener against North Dakota State. Waters beat out redshirt sophomore Daniel Sams, who played sparingly behind Collin Klein last season.
“Jake just displayed more consistency,” Snyder said. “It’s mental, emotional and physical and there was more consistency in his presence during these 24 or 25 practices that we’ve had.”
Snyder mentioned Sams will “in all likelihood” still play during the opener, and that he may have been held back a little bit during fall camp.
“What slowed Daniel down a little bit was that he missed some practice opportunities during the latter stages of our preseason work,” Snyder said.
As for how many snaps Sams will take during the game on Friday?
“It could be five, it could be fifty,” Snyder said. “I just don’t know.”
Waters came to K-State in the spring after leading Iowa Western Junior College to an NJCAA national championship in 2012. He chose the Wildcats over Penn State.
