The four-day K-State blood drive is complete. Volunteer blood donors gave 675 pints of blood this week.
As the largest single supplier of blood and blood products in the United States, the American Red Cross collects and processes more than 40 percent of the blood supply. Red Cross authorities attribute that to colleges that host blood drives, which play an important role in helping to ensure an adequate blood supply for patients in need as almost 20 percent of the millions of donations made each year come from high school and college blood drives.
The Red Cross depends on volunteers to perform its mission, and that includes the members of several K-State campus organizations:
Association of Residence Halls, Delta Sigma Phi fraternity, Phi Delta Gamma (FIJI) fraternity, Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Society, Pre-Med Club, Pre-PA Club, Pre-Vet Club and the Red Cross Club.
