Running both Saturday, October 19 and Sunday, October 20, Sunset Zoo hosted this year”s SPOOKtacular event.
Throughout the zoo, five different candy paths were positioned among the exhibits and both kids and animals were flocking to their activities. Kids were there for candy and animals were partaking in pumpkin enrichment activities in their habitats.
The Nature Exploration Center allowed for more activities as it housed a 100 straw bale maze for the kids to run through. In the classroom, there was pumpkin bowling, pin the nose on the pumpkin, among others.
Ella Casey, Marketing Development Officer, mentioned there were also some special performance planned over the weekend as a couple of the high school choirs stopped in, the K-State tap dancers, and the high school mime troupe were all among the festivities.
According to Scott Shoemaker, Zoo Director, this event has been going on since he started it was a bit scarier than it is now as it was more of a night event.
“SPOOKtacular is by far our largest special event of the year,” Shoemaker said. “It’s a lot of hard work but extremely rewarding to provide our community a safe, family-friendly environment to enjoy the fun of the Halloween season.”
But with this family friendly event, there were over 4,200 community members who visited Sunset Zoo this past weekend.
