Although the idea of forming a public building commission is still on the table, the Riley County Commission viewed new and old bylaws during Thursday’s county commission meeting.
County Counselor, Clancy Holeman presented the bylaws to the commission. While some were easy to decide on, the continuous controversial topic of whether to form an advisory council resulted in a lengthy discussion.
Commissioner, Ron Wells and Commission Chair, Dave Lewis seemed to agree that the idea of an advisory council would not be beneficial for the county, Commissioner, Robert Boyd stood his ground, as he stated in a previous commission meeting “I would not approve a public building commission without including an advisory council”.
Nothing was approved regarding the public building commission, and commissioners will continue to have further discussions during later meetings.

Differing opinions also seemed to arise during a request for rezoning item.
Bart Thomas, of Thomas Outdoor Advertising, applied with Riley County to rezone his tract of land to D-1 industrial.
County Planner, Bob Isaac presented this item to the commission, and included information about where the site is located, as well as maps and pictures. Isaac indicated it would be better to rezone the land as C-PUD. The zoning board seemed to agree with Isaac, as they voted 6-0 to zone the land as C-PUD.
Thomas did not agree with this, as this would be a strict change and he would have trouble doing things on his land without approval.
The commission decided to send this item back to the zoning board, as they feel a better decision can be reached to make Thomas and the county both happy.

County Extension Director, Jennifer Wilson was pleased to announce that a new K-State Research and Extension 4-H Agent has been chosen.
John Jobe will begin his role on December 2nd.
