For the second straight week, former K-State walkon Ryan Mueller was named the Big 12’s defensive player of the week. The junior defensive end had a career-high three sacks and five total tackles in the Cats’ 49-26 win over Texas Tech on Saturday afternoon. Mueller not only tops the Big 12 with 10.5 sacks, but is now the NCAA leader with Louisville’s Marcus Smith. He is one sack away from tying the K-State single-season record of 11.5, held by both Nyle Wiren in 1996 and Ian Campbell in 2006. Mueller is second in tackles for loss in the NCAA with 15 on the season.
Baylor running back Shock Linwood received the Big 12 offensive player of the week nod after rushing for 182 yards in the Bears’ 41-12 win over Oklahoma. Oklahoma State kick returner Justin Gilbert and Texas kicker Anthony Fera shared the special teams honor.
