Update: 9:30 a.m. Monday
KMAN received the name of a man early Monday who was involved in a high-speed chase and a series of other crimes over the weekend.
Devoris Newson (27) of Junction City, was arrested by the Riley County Police Department for a string of crimes including, criminal restraint, criminal trespass, aggravated intimidation of a victim or witness, theft of a motor vehicle, and domestic battery.
RCPD used the IRIS Alert System as well as social media to warn the public that they were looking for a black male with facial tattoos who was involved in a police investigation. RCPD encouraged the public to call 911 if they came into contact with this subject along the K-18 highway.
Using information gathered form the public, police located the suspect and attempted to initiate a traffic stop and were unable unsuccessful. This began a pursuit which ultimately ended when Newsom crashed his vehicle and fled on foot in Geary County.
With the assistance of the Geary County Sheriff’s Office and the Kansas Highway Patrol, Newson was located and taken into custody at approximately 10:20 a.m. on Sunday. Newsom was being held at Riley County Jail at the time of this report in lieu of $19,000 bond. The victim information for this case is being withheld, due to the nature of these crimes.

Update: 6:30 a.m. Monday
While no details are being released by Riley County police regarding Sunday’s incident near Boller Road, Monday morning’s arrest reports indicates the arrest of Devoris Newson, 27, of Junction City, on charges of fleeing of attempting to elude, driving with a suspended or revoked license, aggravated intimidation of a witness or victim, felony theft, domestic battery, and criminal restraint and tresapss. His total bond appears to be $19,000.
While police have not confirmed Newson’s arrest is in connection with the Sunday morning incident, he was arrested shortly before 10:30 and a mug shot from another source indicates Newson matches the description of the man police were looking for.
According to RCPD’ s Twitter account, the subject they were looking for had been described as an African-American male with tattoos on his face and neck. RCPD reported the incident to be resolved shortly before 10 a.m. and that individual was in custody. RCPD would not say why they were looking for the man but did say he was not an escaped inmate.
Eyewitnesses traveling near the area reported to KMAN News via e-mail that officers were seen walking in the ditches on the side of the Interstate between mile markers 303 and 304. RCPD says they will release more information on this incident during their online press briefing todya (Monday).
