Kelly Thomson scored 14 points and Haley Texada added 12 as the Kansas State Women’s Basketball team climbed back above the .500 mark with an 83-50 victory over Grambling State Saturday afternoon at Bramlage Coliseum.
For the first 10 minutes of the first half, the game was close as the Lady Tigers fought back from an early deficit to tie the score at 5-5 with 15:10 remaining. With the score 14-11 in favor of K-State the Wildcats, who never trailed in the contest went on a 15-0 run in a span of five minutes and seven seconds to take control at 29-11 and the rout was on. The Wildcats would out-score the Lady Tigers 13-7 for the rest of the half to take a 42-18 halftime advantage.
After squeezing out a narrow three-point win over Virginia in last weekend’s Junankoo Jam in the Bahamas, there would be no such drama in this game as K-State continued its momentum in the second half. The Wildcats would stretch the lead out to as much as 38 points at 69-31 with seven minutes remaining before settling for the final margin of 33 points, picking up their fourth win of the season in the process.
While Thomson and Texada led the way,12 Wildcats ended up in the score book including Chantay Caron and Kindred Wesemann with nine points apiece and Erica Young adding seven.
Kansas State (4-3) will next be in action on December 15 at Bramlage Coliseum when they face UC-Santa Barbara in a 1 p.m. tipoff.
