By KMAN Staff on December 19, 2013 Fort Riley, Geary County, Local News, Manhattan, Pottawatomie County, Riley County

    Updated 11:20 p.m.

The National Weather Service on Thursday issued two weather advisories for Northeast Kansas which could be impacted by the first major winter storm of the season.

A Freezing Rain Advisory is in effect until 6:00 a.m. for Pottawatomie and Wabunsee Counties. The advisory has been cancelled for Riley and Geary Counties. More significantly a Winter Storm Watch has been issued for the area from 12:00 a.m. CST Saturday until 6:00 a.m. CST on Sunday for the entire listening area as a weather system that is out in the Pacific Ocean is slated to move through the region. Precipitation on Saturday will likely be in the form of a Wintry Mix including a combination of Rain, Freezing Rain and Sleet before changing to snow Saturday night. The heaviest of the snow is expected to fall between 6 p.m. Saturday and 6 a.m. Sunday with predicted amounts of four to seven inches possible.

Due to the uncertain track of the system the forecast is subject to significant change. Check back here and also check our weather page here on this site for the latest Weather information.
