as time expired lifted Texas to a stunning 67-64 victory over 22nd-ranked Kansas State Tuesday night at the Frank Erwin Center in Austin. Moments earlier K-State which had trailed by four points in the final minute tied the game on a layup by Shane Southwell.
Texas then called two timeouts, the second after nearly messing up the inbounds pass and it was after that second timeout that the Longhorns knocked down the three-pointer that put an end to K-State’s modest two-game winning streak and sent the Wildcats to their second consecutive road defeat. In a game that saw more than 20 lead changes, Thomas Gipson scored a career-high 24 points to lead Kansas State while Southwell added 13. Longhorns Point Guard Javan Felix had 23 points to pace Texas which snapped a three-game losing streak against the Wildcats.
Kansas State (14-5-, 4-2) will hit the road again this Saturday when they travel to Iowa State. Tipoff in Ames is set for 12:47 p.m.
