WICHITA, Kan. (AP) Two California brothers who tried to steal a truckload of beef from a southwest Kansas slaughterhouse are facing sentencing in federal court.
Oganes Nagapetian has asked for leniency at Monday’s hearing. He pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit interstate shipment fraud.
Tigran Nagapetian pleaded guilty to the less serious crime of hiding a felony for lying to authorities and concealing his brother’s actions. Both are from North Hollywood, Calif.
The brothers were charged with trying to steal nearly $88,000 worth of packaged beef from Tyson Fresh Meats in Holcomb by posing as legitimate freight haulers. Authorities say the case exemplifies a relatively new form of identity theft.
The Kansas indictment linked Oganes Nagapetian to cargo thefts in California but he has not been charged in those cases.
