The Manhattan Public Library will host a groundbreaking ceremony for the public on Saturday, January 25, at 1:00 pm to mark the beginning of construction on the children’s library expansion.

The ceremony begins in the auditorium with refreshments, music from Anne and Pete Sibley, and opening remarks, and then moves outside to the north face of the library along Poyntz Avenue. Students from Woodrow Wilson and Northview Elementary schools will join other guests to break ground.

Architects from Bowman Bowman and Novick Inc have developed an impressive plan for the new space, and Kelly Construction plans to have the project completed by the end of 2014. Construction updates will be posted regularly on the library’s website at www.mhklibrary.org. The Manhattan Public library is located at 629 Poyntz Avenue in Manhattan, Kansas. If you would like more information about the ceremony or any other library-related events or services, please call (785) 776-4741, visit our website at www.mhklibrary.org, or email us at refstaff@mhklibrary.org.

Anne and Pete Sibley are in town to perform at the Manhattan Arts Center’s Birdhouse series at 7:30 p.m. the same evening. Ticket information can be found at http://www.manhattanarts.org.
