    Jan.1 release–

The Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s Department is investigating an apparent homicide in St. Marys.

Sheriff Greg Riat has announced on January 1st  a vehicle drove into the parking lot of the St.Marys’ Police Department and an occupant of the vehicle summoned an on duty St. Marys Police officer, reporting an individual in the vehicle had suffered a gunshot wound.  At approximately the same time at 4:43 a.m. Sheriff Dispatch received a 911 call from another individual who was in the same car and reported that a occupant of the car had suffered a gunshot wound.

Along with the St.Marys’ Police Officer who was on the scene, Pottawatomie County EMS and Pottawatomie County Sheriff Deputies responded to this call.  It was discovered that the victim, a 24-year-old male from Rossville was deceased inside the vehicle.  A suspect was detained early in the incident.

Investigation throughout the day led to the arrest of the suspect, Pablo Alberto Gonzalez , 21, of St.Marys.  The victim appears to have been a passenger in the Gonzalez vehicle.  Gonzalez is currently being held at the Pottawatomie County Jail.

Pottawatomie County Attorney Sherri Schuck tells KMAN Gonzalez is being formally charged with second degree murder and will make a first appearance on Tuesday, January seventh. His bond has been set at one million dollars.
