WVU Holds Off K-State Rally

Brandon Watkins, Nino Williams

Marcus Foster scored 23 points and Thomas Gipson had 19, but the star of the show was Juwan Staten who had a career high 35 points as West Virginia avenged an earlier loss and knocked off Kansas State 81-71 Saturday at the WVU Coliseum in Morgantown.

The Wildcats trailed 39-31 at halftime and the deficit grew to 10 early in the second half before a rally cut it to one point in the final five minutes. However, the Mountaineers were able to put together a run and salt the game away.

Kansas State (15-7, 5-4) will next be in action on February 8 when they welcome Texas to Bramlage Coliseum. The Number 25 ranked Longhorns handed sixth-ranked Kansas their first Big 12 loss 81-69 on Saturday in Austin.
