Nate Griep turned in his second consecutive strong outing while R.J. Santigate and Mitch Meyer combined for five hits as the Kansas State Wildcats won their first road series of the season with an 8-2 romp over Creighton Sunday at TD Ameritrade Park in Omaha, Neb.
Griep who shut out Oklahoma last Sunday scattered seven hits over seven innings pitching in his hometown in front of family and friends. Floyd Jordan worked the eighth and Jake Matthys showed some of the form he displayed during last season’s historic run to the NCAA Super Regional with a scoreless ninth including a game-ending strikeout. Trailing 2-1 after three innings, K-State erupted for three runs in the top of the fourth inning, added a single run in the sixth before putting the game away with three more tallies in the top of the ninth.
It was the first time this season the Wildcats have won back-to-back road games and K-State has now won 16 of its last 19 games following a 1-7 start to the season.
Kansas State (17-10) is back in Omaha Tuesday night to face the Omaha Mavericks. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m.
