KSU Women Fall to TCU on Senior Night

The Kansas State Women’s Basketball team wrapped up regular season play Monday night with three Seniors, Chantay Caron, Ashlynn Knoll and Katya Leick all playing their final home games in Bramlage Coliseum and for a while it looked like they would go out winners. However, sluggish second half shooting and a critical turnover in the game’s final 15 seconds allowed TCU to escape with a 51-46 victory.

K-State led by as much as six points in the first half and held a 30-26 advantage at halftime, but their recent shooting woes resurfaced during the early stages of the second half as the Wildcats went five minutes and 22 seconds without scoring a single point. The Horned Frogs didn’t fare much better from the floor and it was a three-point game in the final seconds when Leick missed a three-point attempt and Leticia Romero grabbed the rebound. Romero tried to pass the ball to Kindred Wesemann for a potential game-tying three pointer but the pass was off target and the ball went out of bounds. TCU then sank two free throws to ice game and gain a sweep of the regular season series.

Wesemann who spent much of the second half on the bench after picking up her fourth foul at the 17-minute mark led the Wildcats with 13 points. K-State shot just under 34 percent for the game and made just 25 percent of their shots in the second half. Zahna Medley of TCU led all scorers with 18 points while Natalie Ventress added 10.

Kansas State (11-18, 5-13) now turns its attention to the Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship which begins Friday night in Oklahoma City. The Wildcats will meet arch-rival Kansas for the third time this season in a first round game. K-State defeated the Jayhawks 76-68 in the teams most recent meeting on February 26 at Allen Fieldhouse. Tip-off on Friday is set for 6 p.m.
