K-State won it’s first Big 12 series of the season in thrilling fashion 6-4 over Baylor on Friday night at Tointon Family Stadium.
Blair DeBord’s infield single in the bottom of the eighth scored the two go-ahead runs to break a 4-4 tie and push the Wildcats ahead one final time in a back-and-forth game. DeBord dove headfirst to beat out the throw and was called safe, though replays showed the throw beat him to the bag.
Jake Matthys picked up the win in relief after shutting the door on Baylor in the 9th inning.
Tanner DeVinny, Ross Kivett, Shane Conlon and Tyler Stover all had multi-hit games for K-State in the win.
The win vaults K-State out of last place in the Big 12 standings with a 4-7 conference record. It’s the first series win over Baylor since 2010, and the Wildcats will go for the sweep Saturday night.
