Thunderstorms dropped significant rain over Northeast Kansas Sunday morning and also triggered a Flash Flood Warning to be issued by the National Weather Service for a time for Manhattan and Junction City. Approximately 3.4 inches of rain fell just outside the KMAN studios on Sunday morning before the storms moved out shortly before Noon.
Riley County Police had been urging motorists to avoid several Manhattan streets including North Manhattan Avenue, Bertrand and Vattier Streets. Authorities also reported high water on Denison and Jardine and Ehlers Road had rocks in the roadway shortly after 9 a.m. Lyon Creek in Geary County was reported to be out of its banks as a result of the heavy rainfall and K-18 was closed for about an hour in Riley and Wabunsee Counties due to high water though the Kansas Department of Transportation has said the stretch of highway is now completely re-opened.
