The Riley County Police Department has announced the recipient of the second annual RCPD Scholarship Award. Abbie Boyda, the daughter of Lt. Steve Boyda and Dispatch Supervisor Kim Boyda as well as Brian and Jennifer Keller, was awarded this $500.00 scholarship in April of this year after a selection process conducted throughout the months prior. She is currently attending school in Nebraska for X-Ray and CT Radiography as well as Imaging Informatics. She plans to graduate from this higher education in August of 2015.

To qualify for this scholarship, applicants must be the dependent son or daughter of an active, full-time RCPD employee and accepted or currently enrolled as a full-time student at the undergraduate or graduate level. This scholarship is made possible by the donations of RCPD employees, the Riley County Police Department Employee Fund, as well as donations from the general public. RCPD is proud to have the ability to assist scholarship recipients with a portion of what it may cost them to attend an institution of higher learning.

“I want to wish Abbie the best of luck at school in Nebraska and hope that the contribution our employees have made helps her reach her goals.” -Director Bradley Schoen.

The Riley County Police Department Scholarship Fund is a component fund of the Greater Manhattan Community Foundation and was established by RCPD to recognize outstanding students who are children of RCPD employees. Members of the public who would like to donate to the RCPD Scholarship Fund may do so by submitting donations in check form to the “RCPD Scholarship Fund.” Donations may be sent to the fund care of the Greater Manhattan Community Foundation, 555 Poyntz Avenue, Suite 269, PO Box 1127, Manhattan, KS 66505-1127.
