This past school year, Manhattan Christian College, in partnership with KU medical center, created a program to train preachers who work with medical patients. Manhattan Christian College President Kevin Ingram says students in the program help patients and families in difficult situations.
“From their first weekend they weren’t residents, they weren’t volunteers, their name badge said chaplain. If there was a shooting in the night and the family came into the E.R. and they needed a chaplain there to help navigate all of that, it was our student,” Ingram said.
Ingram said the program is an example of how his college emphasizes on hands-on learning.
“We exist to educate, equip, and enrich Christian leaders and we do that a lot through hands on leadership. We do put it on the students now so that they’re best prepared when they graduate,” Ingram said.
One of the students who went through the program has graduated from Manhattan Community College and has started an internship with the hospital the student served during the program.
