Kansas State University’s College of Education and Manhattan/Ogden USD 383 have partnered on the implementation of a Department of Defense Education Activity grant. The grant awarded for $1,739,045, is through the Promoting Student Achievement at Schools Impacted by Military Force Structure Changes Competitive Grant Program.
This partnership was conducted in order to provide a STEM Summer Institute on the K-State campus. This month, the institute will host over 300 5th-9th grade students, 24 school district faculty and staff members, 28 KSU pre-service students, and staff to participate in learning activities.
Some of the new courses offered for this summer include:
- 3-D printing
- engineering with mine craft
- Hollywood science
- monster storms
- outdoor biology
- treasure hunters
- wind energy
Students have the opportunity to enjoy different field trips and experiences on and off campus during these courses. Campus and community departments contribute authentic learning experiences for students as well.
