Wounded Warriors Amputee Softball Team battle at Tointon Stadium

Royals legend former pitcher Tom Burgmeier said simply, “Being with the wounded warriors is a fantastic thing.”  Burgmeier joined a host of other celebrity all stars as they took the field for the All-Star celebrity game against the Wounded Warriors Amputee Softball Team On Saturday afternoon in Tointon Family Stadium.

Wounded Warrior Head Coach Bucky Weaver says the team came together after many of the players met in recovery, and quickly gathered others who wanted to play the game again.

Sergeant First Class Roy Frazier was in the dugout before the game and said he was there after being “voluntold” that he was now the first base coach for the game.  SFC Frazier says he was a former platoon sergeant of one of the players, and after a night of catching up just kind of got swept up into the program.

That seemed to be the case for many of the players and coaches as they gathered on the field to the cheers of fans in the stands.  The feeling of hope, and the unrelenting quest for victory has gathered them to the field to play ball once again.

Below are several photos from the event.
