Commission wraps up meetings tour of county

Riley countyLeonardville was the final stop on the Riley County Commission’s small towns tour.  The commission, in previous weeks, has traveled to Ogden, Riley and Randolph.

Sign regulations were one major topic during Thursday’s meeting, as Planning/Special Projects Director, Monty Wedel shared the changes they have made within the amendments.  Although these changes have not yet been approved, and can still be adjusted, Wedel asked the commission to approve proceeding with the notice of public hearings to discuss these possible changes.

The proposed amendments would prohibit movement on digital signs, as far as scrolling, strobing, etc.  Instead, digital signs would need to change from message-to-message instantly.

The commission chose to unanimously approve the application to proceed with notices of public hearings for sign regulation discussions.  These public hearings are planned for December 1st, 8th and 11th.

A few other items were approved during the meeting, including the asphalt bid for the public works facility.  Shilling Construction will complete the project for $89/ton, which is a total of $74,522.
