The Manhattan City Commission approved a request to rezone the proposed Mercy Regional Health Center PUD from a single-family district to a Commercial PUD.
Plans include a 70,000 square foot building, which will house Via Christi offices and other medical practice tenants. The development plan also includes new digital signage.

Manhattan’s Convention and Visitor’s Bureau presented its third quarterly report to the City Commission, Tuesday evening. The report, delivered by CVB Director Karen Hibbard, included a marketing summary that essentially paints a statistical picture of the type of visitors that come to Manhattan.
The marketing report indicated that Manhattan didn’t have as many attractions as surrounding destinations; and the Commission discussed strategies to highlight the City’s strengths in order to stay competitive.

The Commission also heard the 2013 Annual Economic Development Report Tuesday.
“Our finance staff presented on all companies that have received incentives from the City of Manhattan, either through the 2002-2012 Riley county Economic Development Fund or from the renewal in 2012,” said Jason Hilgers, deputy city manager.
According to Hilgers, most of the companies detailed in the report are showing stable growth.

The Commission discussed its policy for electing members to the Riley County Law Board.
Traditionally, all of the City’s appointments have been elected officials as per the translation of a rule set by a past Commission; however, there are some active Commissioners who would like to simplify the process.
The Commission decided to bring back several options for vote (including the existing policy) at a future legislative meeting.
