WICHITA, Kan. (AP) — A small plane has crashed at Wichita’s Mid-Continent Airport, sending up huge plumes of black smoke that can be seen for miles around the city.  According to the Associated Press a fire chief is indicating at least two people are dead inside the Kansas airport building where the small plane crashed. Authorities say the total death toll is now four.

Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman Elizabeth Cory says a small Beechcraft model plane crashed just before 10 a.m. Thursday. Cory says the plane had just taken off but quickly turned around in an attempt to return to the airport.

She did not have any more details and referred questions to local search and rescue officials.

Officials with the airport and city did not immediately return calls seeking comment.
