Breanna Lewis and Haley Texada scored 14 points apiece while Bri Craig and Ashia Woods each contributed 13 as the Kansas State Women’s team opened play Tuesday in the Hardwood for Hope Classic with a 72-43 win over Texas-El Paso in Puerta Vallarta, Mexico.

K-State raced out to a 43-15 halftime lead and never looked back against a Miners squad that had beaten them each of the last two seasons including a 35-point blowout last year in El Paso.

Lewis and Woods also excelled Defensively in the game with each grabbing nine rebounds.

Kansas State (4-0) continues play South of the Border on Wednesday with a game against Santa Clara. Tipoff is set for 5 p.m. CST.
