Nikki Moody scored 20 points to lead three players in double figures and Iowa State knocked down 14 three-point baskets as the Cyclones broke open a close game in the second half on their way to a 79-59 victory over Kansas State before an announced crowd of 7,816 on Pack the House Night Saturday at Bramlage Coliseum.
K-State got off to a strong start scoring the game’s first six points and held a 12-5 lead with 13:54 left in the first half. The Cyclones then used a 15-4 run to lead 20-16 with nine and a half minutes left before halftime. The two teams would spend the rest of the half taking turns in the lead with Iowa State holding a 37-35 advantage at intermission.
In the second half the score was relatively close at 50-46 with 11:34 left in the game before the Cyclones took control, outscoring the Wildcats 29-13 the rest of the way as Iowa State added seven more three-pointers to their halftime total of seven.
Along with Moody, Brynn Williamson added 17 points for Iowa State while Nicole Blaskowsky contributed 15 points as the Cyclones completed the sweep of the regular season series between the two schools. Breanna Lewis led K-State with 15 points while Deborah Meeks had 10.
Kansas State (11-5, 1-4) will be on the road for their next two contests starting with Wednesday night’s tilt in Morgantown against West Virginia. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.
