After a year of construction and over 2.1 million dollars, Manhattan Public Library welcomed the community to the grand opening of their Children’s Library.
The opening held Saturday brought a crowd of toddlers through 6th graders and their parents, curious about what the new space had to offer for Manhattan’s youth. Library Director, Linda Knupp commented on the achievements of not only the library, but also the community in their support.
“We really wanted to take this opportunity for everyone to come in and see the new space, and enjoy it […] and really just celebrate the new space and all the community has accomplished with this new expansion.”
Knupp wasn’t the only library official there to oversee the beginning of this new opportunity for youth in the area. She was accompanied by Jennifer Bergen, Children’s Service Manager for the library who said consideration to age was very important in building the Children’s Room, which is organized based on categorized interests the kids have, such as everything from an “Animal” section to a section dedicated to stories of cars and trucks. Bergen says the amount of visitors has been good so far, not just including the curious kids on 0pening day.
“We’ve been really busy, especially on the weekends and after school. We’re expecting that to continue, and we hope everyone will come try out the library if they haven’t been in for a while.”
