The new flood plain maps, featuring higher insurance rates, will be adopted in March. However, prior to the new map implementation, the Riley County planning and zoning department wanted to ensure they are following the Federal Emergency Management Association (FEMA’s) guidelines.
During Monday’s county commission meeting, County Planner, Bob Isaac shared very minor zoning regulation changes that fall in line with the requirements necessary to approve the maps.
Isaac mentioned these changes are very insignificant when comparing them to the City of Manhattan’s major variations.
The board unanimously approved these zoning regulation adjustments.

The CiCo Park detention/sled hill construction project is still continuing right now. But Public Works Director, Leon Hobson mentioned one snag crews ran into, during his project update.
He said an eight foot pipe under Robinson Drive was discovered to have significant damage.
He added, crews are currently exploring several different options on how to deal with the issue.

County Clerk, Rich Vargo reminded local residents the deadline to file for all school board and city elections is Tuesday at noon.
Riley County Extension Horticulture Agent, Gregg Eyestone mentioned the landscape design classes planned for this Thursday.
