    MHS Wrestling Wins a 6A Regional Championship

    Manhattan High, Junction City and Derby were neck-and-neck throughout the entire tournament. Like last year’s regional, it took an MHS vs. Derby 285 pound championship match to determine a regional champion. This year. Eldon Picou of MHS was able to defeat Derby’s Nate Fowler to seal the regional championship for the Indians.

    12 Manhattan High wrestlers qualified today, and are going on to the 6A State tournament next Friday and Saturday at Hartman Arena in Wichita. Here are the individual results for all 14 Tribe wrestlers…

    106# – Alejandro Martinez, Jr (25-16) did not place and scored 3 team points.*

    113# – Darrion Taylor, Sr (16-5) placed 1st and scored 20 team points.

    120# – Jalin Harper, Fr (34-3) placed 1st and scored 21 team points.

    126# – Gary Joint, So (32-3) placed 1st and scored 21.5 team points.

    132# – Mason Wallace, So (40-2) placed 1st and scored 22.5 team points.

    138# – Devin Norris, So (29-14) placed 2nd and scored 17 team points.

    145# – Kendrick Rivera, Sr (23-16) placed 3rd and scored 13 team points.

    152# – Zephry Killham, So (21-15) placed 3rd and scored 12 team points.

    160# – Blake Wewer, Jr (16-16) placed 4th and scored 6 team points.

    170# – Carlos Martinez, Jr (8-6) placed 4th and scored 7 team points.

    182# – Hunter Christensen, Fr (9-29) placed 4th and scored 6 team points.

    195# – Calvin Smith, Fr (8-9) placed 3rd and scored 12 team points.

    220# – Akira Alesna, So (8-19) did not place and scored 2 team points.*

    285# – Eldon Picou, So (31-6) placed 1st and scored 20 team points.

    * Did not qualify for state
