Levi MaVorhis worked seven plus innings while Tyler Wolfe drove in three runs as Kansas State picked up its first Big 12 series win of the season with a 6-2 victory over third-ranked TCU before 2,554 Sunday afternoon at Tointon Family Stadium.

K-State got on the board in the bottom of the third inning on an RBI groundout by Wolfe, but the big inning was the fifth when the Wildcats loaded the bases with nobody out, chasing Horned Frogs starting pitcher Alex Young. K-State increased its lead to 3-0 when Wolfe reached on a fielder’s choice and Shane Conlon hit a sacrifice fly. Two more runs then scored on a triple by Max Brown who missed a chance to make it an inside the park homerun when he fell between third base and home plate and was tagged out by TCU catcher Evan Skoug.

Brown jumped to avoid the tag and some of his Wildcat teammates felt that Skoug was to aggressive on the play and some words were exchanged between the two teams before cooler heads prevailed.

K-State added another run in the seventh inning with a Wolfe double to center. MaVorhis (2-0) was relieved by Jackson Douglas in the eighth inning after the Horned Frogs put runners on base with a walk and a single which eventually led to TCU’s only runs of the game Corey Fischer finished things off by getting the final two outs of the game in the ninth.

Kansas State (16-18, 4-8) wins its first series against a Big 12 foe since defeating Baylor two out of three games April 17-19, 2014 at Tointon Family Stadium.

K-State’s homestand continues on Tuesday when Wichita State visits Tointon Family Stadium. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m.
