Two Riley County road and bridge half cent sales tax projects north of Manhattan were discussed during Monday’s county commission meeting. Public Works Director, Leon Hobson presented the commission with requests on the two matters.
The first was for an asphalt overlay project on West 59th Street and the second involves the design for the West Fancy Creek Road bridge project. Hobson stated there are not currently sufficient funds for the Fancy Creek projects, but he wished to move forward with getting the design done. He also shared a few pictures of this project to show where the road is beginning to deteriorate.
Both requests were approved by the board unanimously.

In other business, as the board acted as the Board of Health, commissioners approved to apply for the March of Dimes Becoming a Mom grant.

During the meeting’s press conference, Kansas Sampler Organizer, Michelle Crisler and aTa Bus Director, Anne Smith shared some news regarding the Kansas Sampler Festival this weekend. The two day event will be held in Wamego for the second and final year.
Shuttle buses will not only be offered from various parking locations in Wamego, but will also depart from a few Manhattan locations including Manhattan Town Center Mall and Dillon’s West Loop.
Crisler said the hope is that they will break the record attendance for the second year and reach over 11,000 participants.
