Former Daycare Owner Found Guilty of Charges

Riley-County-Courthouse-300x199A Manhattan woman, who previously owned a daycare center, is facing charges of aggravated battery and endangering a child under 18 after an incident that occurred in April of last year.
Lesa Heiman appeared in Riley County District Court Monday afternoon, alongside her attorney, Nicholas Heiman.
Prosecuting State Attorney, Bethany Fields informed Chief Judge Meryl Wilson that a plea agreement had been reached.  Heiman plead no contest to both of the charges against her.
Fields shared the factual basis of what the state would have tried to prove had a jury trial been held.  She said according to the case background, a child was taken to the daycare provider on April 14th, 2014.  The child’s head was injured by a ceiling fan, to which Heiman did not reportedly notify the parents nor EMS right away.  After the child became pale and started vomiting, the parents were called.  Reports stated the child’s then mother arrived and saw the child was gray in color.  The child was sent to Mercy Regional Health Center, where he was then sent on to Kansas City.
Judge Wilson found Heiman guilty.  He set her sentencing for May 26th at 2:30 p.m.
