By KMAN Staff on April 20, 2015 Riley County

riley county commission“The burning is about done for the year”.  This statement was made by Riley County Fire Chief, Pat Collins during Monday’s county commission meeting.

Collins reported that his crews did not have any calls in reference to pasture burning on Saturday or Sunday, which hasn’t happened in several weeks.

Collins also shared some preliminary numbers regarding pasture burning.  He said there have been over 17,000 acres burned this month so far and around 30,000 were burned last month.

In other business, the commission viewed the 2015 non-funded projects list during a capitol improvement project work session.  Several department heads were in attendance to share what their most pressing matters are.

IT/GIS Director, Kevin Howser; Noxious Weed Director, Dennis Peterson; and Appraiser, Greg McHenry had one item each in which they wished to have fulfilled soon.

Fire Chief/Emergency Management Director, Pat Collins asked the commission about a stand by/back up generator for storm outages.  This would be a $75,000 purchase, but the commission did not feel it was necessary at this time.

EMS Director, Larry Couchman asked the commission to consider approving two ambulance purchases, which is estimated around $240,000.

————-

Three bid openings were held during the meeting:  CHFRS-2P asphalt seal oil, S. 32nd bridge replacement project, and 3/8″ CM-K crushed limestone chips.

All of the bids submitted were approved to move forward for staff evaluation and recommendation.
