tulip festival 2Every spring, the Wamego Tulip Festival is held in Wamego City Park.  This year’s two day event had mid-70 degree weather to contribute to a successful turnout.

Children’s inflatables, a petting zoo, kid’s train rides, and live entertainment were just a few of the activities offered for the nearly 16,000 guest in attendance.

Around 165 area arts and crafts vendors lined the paths within the park and were located on the tennis courts.  Some of the goods sold included wreaths, recycled material signs, scarves, clothes, jewelry and artwork.

While some vendor participants were new to the event, the live history re-enactment individuals were not.  For four years straight, Sharon Houston has been attending the festival with her group of 1860s-1890s re-enactment group.

Houston was making apple butter throughout the day on Saturday while some of her friends shared tomahawk throwing skills and camping skills.

As far as what she enjoys about the festival, Houston said “everything.  I think every year it gets better.”

In just a few short weeks, Wamego City Park will play host to another event:  the Kansas Sampler Festival.
