Moran Speaks at Letter Carriers Convention

0
By KMAN Staff on May 2, 2015 Manhattan

jerry moran-postal event speaker 1“Your input matters to me.”  That was one of the opening statements made by U.S. Senator Jerry Moran, of Manhattan, during the 2015 Kansas State Association of Letter Carriers State Convention, which was held at the Four Points by Sheraton here in Manhattan.

In lieu of Moran’s upcoming meeting with the new postmaster general for Kansas on Tuesday, Moran said he wanted to hear from mail carriers to find out what they want to see.

Moran stated he has two suggestions for the new general.  The first was to listen to the postal worker people, as he said “she should listen to the people who know what they’re doing”.  Secondly, Moran added, “you cannot cut your way to success with the postal service”.  He followed this statement up by saying, “I remain a strong proponent of six day service”, which received a long round of applause.

During Moran’s remarks, he also spoke about the recent decisions to eliminate postal service centers throughout the state.  Moran recently completed another town hall tour to every county in Kansas.  He stated during the tour, many people shared stories of postal services taking nearly two weeks to deliver their packages.  Moran said he feels this is due to the cutting of postal service centers and he would like to re-open the centers.

The convention also featured a candlelight ceremony for the postal service employees who have passed during the recent year.
