If you frequently use dating apps or websites, you may want to think twice before ‘swiping right’. K-State police are warning of reports of an online dating scam.
The department says that the scam involves someone posing as a K-State student stuck in a foreign country, in need of money. The scammer has used an altered student identification card in an attempt to validate his or her story.
Campus police encourage students and community members to be cautious when establishing online relationships, and to use common sense when being asked to give or accept money from unknown or suspicious persons.
If you have reason to believe that you have been the target in a scam, please do not open any electronic attachments or engage in conversation with the potential scammer. Instead, you are asked to contact the K-State Police Department at 785-532-6412.
