Pottawatomie County commissioners heard 2016 budgets from county administrators at their meeting Monday.
Commission Chair Pat Weixelman says the works budget presented by Leu Lowrey was the largest one presented, with an increase of approximately $200,000 dollars proposed, a majority of it for wages.
Treasurer Lisa Wright and Register of Deeds Betty Abitz also asked for wage increases comparable to those in Riley County.
Commissioners also heard from the county’s Zoning Administrator , Gregg Webster. Some concerns were voiced by 1st District Commissioner Dee Mckee on the safety of the roads concerning the Marlatt/Junietta extension phase.
Other presentations were made by Fire Supervisor Jared Barnes.
Barnes asked for an increase in the budget to allot for what he said was a much-needed fire station.
The County will carry out a lease-purchase on the Wheaton Fire Station and possibly apply for a Kan Step Grant to purchase the Olsburg Fire Station.
