    Emergency personnel responded to the 11000 block of Rimrock Road in Manhattan on Tuesday at approximately 1:40 a.m. for a report of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
     When responding officers arrived they found Donald Pickering, 65, of Manhattan was deceased. Pickering contacted the Riley County Police Department Communications Center Dispatch prior to his death, however, he did not express a desire to harm himself at that time.

    Police do not suspect foul play based on information and evidence collected at the scene. Officials also confirmed the public is not in danger as a result of this death.

    A 55-year-old Manhattan woman faces two possible aggravated battery counts following her arrest Tuesday night. Benita Black was taken into custody at approximately 9:40 PM.

    Riley County Police say Black reportedly struck a 46-year-old male victim who was known to her with a glass and a blunt object. Black’s bond was set at $16,000.

    An Alta Vista man was arrested for aggravated battery Tuesday afternoon. According to Riley County Police,  Jake Fechner, 37,  was arrested in the 5300 block of Tuttle Creek Boulevard at about 3:30 PM.
    Fechner allegedly struck a 35-year-old female victim who was known to him in the face with a leaf blower. His bond was set at $8,000.

    Riley County Police are investigating an early Tuesday morning attempted aggravated burglary in the 3800 block of Kates Court involving the occupied home of Randall Anderes, 56,  Elaine Anderes, 52, and a 16-year-old female.

    Damage included a broken basement window and a cut in the screen of an entry door. Officers are still investigating this incident and ask that anyone with information contact the Manhattan Riley County Crime Stoppers. Total amount of loss is unknown at the time of this report.
