    Unemployment Up in Manhattan Area

    The Manhattan metro area, which includes Pottawatomie and Riley counties, showed a slight increase in unemployment, with 4.1 percent in June compared to 3.7 percent in May, although that number is lower than the 4.2 percent in June of last year. The numbers including Manhattan and Junction City showed a 4.6 percent number. The city of Manhattan/ Riley County part is 3.7 percent, also higher than May’s 3.3 percent.
    Area county numbers include Riley at four percent, Pottawatomie at 4.2, Geary at 6.8, and Clay at five percent.
    The Manhattan metro area still has the lowest rate in the state with 4.1 compared to other metros, while the city of Manhattan’s number of 3.7 is the third lowest following Leawood with 3.4 and Olathe with 3.6.
