A Manhattan man is in custody and an unidentified woman was hospitalized following an early Sunday morning incident at State Lake 2 in rural Manhattan in Pottawatomie County.
The Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s Dispatcher received a 911 call shortly before 1:30 a.m. Sunday of an individual being struck by a vehicle at State Lake 2, on State Lake Road. Sheriff Deputies and Emergency Services responded to the area and located the female victim who was reported to have been injured.
While investigating, Sheriff Deputies received information the female victim was allegedly injured by a Manhattan man, identified as Russell Mayse, 34, with whom she had been arguing. Mayse was reported to be driving a vehicle at the time the victim’s injuries occurred and the female victim was outside of the vehicle when she was injured.
Mayse was taken into custody for Aggravated Battery and DUI and is currently at the Pottawatomie County Jail awaiting bond. The unidentified female victim was transported to a local hospital and later released.
