    Bank Robbery in Manhattan – UPDATED

    UPDATED 3:35 p.m.: The RCPD released the following press release regarding the robbery.

    “On August 26, 2015 at approximately 10:20 AM officers with the Riley County Police Department responded to a reported robbery at the Sunflower Bank located at 2710 Anderson Ave. in Manhattan, Kansas. There were no weapons used to facilitate this crime.

    Officers were told that a white male standing approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall with a larger build and facial hair demanded money from the bank. This subject, who is currently unknown, was wearing dark color clothing, a ball cap, glasses, and a dark color backpack. At the time of this press release his direction of travel after leaving this bank, whether he left on foot or in a vehicle, and the amount of US currency that was taken was unknown.

    Detectives with the Riley County Police Department are now asking for the public’s assistance in solving this crime. Anyone with information about this subject, his whereabouts, or the crime that was committed are encouraged to contact the Manhattan Riley County Crime Stoppers.     Riley County Police now have a description of an individual connected to a reported bank robbery at Sunflower Bank, in the 2700 block of Anderson, reported shortly before 10:30 Wednesday morning. RCPD indicates they have an interest in locating a white male approximately 5’10” with a ball cap, glasses, stubble on his face, with a larger build and wearing black with a  backpack.

    RCPD Public Information Officer Matthew Droge told KMAN at the scene officers arrived immediately and secured a perimeter. Traffic was impacted for a short time.
    Droge adds no weapons were used but he still urges those who might see the suspect to use caution. The FBI is working with the investigation. A dollar amount of what was taken is not available.
